Court orders Wontumi to be served by substituted service

This means that the copies of the writ of summons and the statement of claim will be posted at the NPP regional office and on the notice boards of the High Court and Circuit Court.

The High Court has ordered the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, to be served by substituted service.

Once that is done, it will be concluded that he (Wontumi) has been served.

The court makes such an order when a defendant evades services.

Attempts to serve Wontumi, with a writ of summons by court bailiffs to appear before a Kumasi High Court in a defamatory suit have failed so far.

This is because of the difficulty the court bailiffs are facing in reaching him.

Sources at the court have said that the Bailiffs have on three occasions gone to the offices of the Chairman to serve him with the writ but have met his absence on those occasions.
