Thirty-one students of the Nalerigu Senior High School in the Northern Region, are in the custody of the police for causing damage to public property and stealing amidst a riot  that has led to a closure of the school.

The students who went on rampage Saturday night, were allegedly angered when authorities of the school prevented them from holding an entertainment show ahead of examinations.

The Saturday night entertainment event was underway when power supply was interrupted, an incident the students suspected was a deliberate act by school authorities to end the event.

According to the Northern Regional Police Command, the number of students arrested now stands at 31 from the initial 24 as of Monday morning.

Asp Tetteh said the students who disagreed with the headmaster's instructions, stormed his bungalow vandalizing his vehicle and other assets.

Some of the students according to the police, also broke into the school's newly constructed computer lab making away with about 20 computers.

The police says 31 of the students are in their custody whiles the school has been closed down temporarily.
