ACCA to train Controller and Accountant General staff on best practices

ACCA signs MoU with CAGD.

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) has signed an MoU with the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) to train staff of the later on finance and accounting.

The agreement will also see ACCA train non-accounting staff of CAGD, all in the quest and objective of making the institution grow and develop in a professional manner.

Addressing the media at the short signing ceremony, the Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Eugene Ofosuhene said it was a privilege and an opportunity to upgrade and improve the CAGD staff.

“We will also commit ourselves to the cause so whatever we agree and sign, we will show commitment and support,” he added.

He further stated that the MoU will cover a number of issues including helping “us compile our accounts properly and improving upon accounting instructions and also ensure that we execute our mandate in a very effective manner.

Concluding, Mr. Ofosuhene urged staff and management of the Controller and Accountant General department to take full advantage of the collaboration. “I will urge all of us as a department to show commitment and make sure we [CAGD] benefit immensely from the partnership.”

The ACCA team in Ghana also promised to train and share key and relevant topical issues relating to public sector financial management.

“ACCA will provide support on building the finance and accounting competencies of CAGD staff.”

Norman Williams, Portfolio Head of ACCA East and West Africa, opined that it was a privilege and opportunity to have this strategic relationship with the CAGD. “Core to this MoU is to build capacity in critical areas like public sector financial standards.”

He continued to say that the ACCA will ensure the Controller and Accountant General Department is abreast with the latest development in accounting.

Also present for the signing ceremony was Doris Ahiati, Head ACCA Ghana. She expressed delight about the collaboration between the two parties.

Salome Addai, Business Development Executive and Public Sector Champion ACCA Ghana and Kwaku Anim Boadu, Education Manager were all present.
