Amewu apologises to Rawlings

Appearing before the vetting committee on Tuesday (January 31, 2017), Amewu apologised to former president Rawlings after the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu asked whether he would want to apologise for the comments.

Minister-designate for Lands and Forestry, John Peter Amewu has apologised to former president Jerry John Rawlings after he some false claims against Rawlings.

“Mr Chairman let me use this opportunity to render unqualified apology to His Excellency President Jerry John Rawlings,” Amewu said.

The former President demanded an apology from New Patriotic Party (NPP)'s Volta Regional Chairman for claiming Rawlings helped the NPP win the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

This was after Amewu praised the former President for helping the party emerge victorious in the December 7 polls especially in the Volta Region.

But Rawlings described Amewu’s claims as false and malicious claims.

In a statement, Rawlings said, "to make such untruthful and absurd claims of a follow up telephone call which can easily be verified is foolhardy, imprudent, unbecoming of a political actor who is supposed to lead with integrity and absolutely disrespectful."
