President of the Central University College, Professor Kwesi Yankah has disclosed that he is a card bearing member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to him, he is a good standing member of the elephant family with a party card.

Professor Kwesi Yankah has been nominated to serve as Minister for Tertiary Education by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Speaking during his vetting at the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, 27 March, Prof Yankah noted that he's not a sympathizer but a card bearing member of the party.

"I stopped the sympathiser thing long ago…I am a card bearing member of the NPP," he added.

Speaking on the introduction of new courses in public universities, he said universities veered off their core mandate for which they were established in order to raise revenue.

"It is quite clear that many universities have evolved over the years and in so doing, they have left behind the original mandates for which they were established. University of Cape Coast was originally for science education, [University of Ghana], Legon started as a liberal arts institution. They eventually tended to roll out science and engineering programmes from their own experience," he said.
