A Ghanaian Kojo Bedu-Addo has started an online petition to Ghana’s Parliament for maternity leave to be increased from 3 months to 6 months.
Kojo Bedu-Adu who started the petition said the current 3 months given to mothers as maternity leave is not enough especially in the era where both parents must earn to ensure the home survives.
“Our current labour laws provides just 3 months for our working mothers and wives to spend time with our newborn children before returning to work.”

“This is simply not good enough for the productive years of the new-born and the overall productivity of the nation. It's also a barrier to motherhood and work. Let's take the progressive step to change this legislation.”

Many people who signed the petition argued that they believe the new mothers need the enough time with their newborns especially because of the exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months.
