Counsel for the accused had prayed the court to grant them bail on grounds of a deteriorating health conditions.

He argued that as long as they remain in custody their human rights were being curtailed.

The suspects were escorted to court today by over 40 personnel from the National Swat team and the Eastern regional Rapid Deployment Force Unit.

The accused persons were charged with causing unlawful damages, conspiracy to riot, rioting with weapons, unlawful assembly and causing unlawful damages to properties.

The suspects are alleged to have clashed with Police officers in the area over the arrest of the leader who organised a demonstration against the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The irate youth burned the police car in the process.

The irate youth stormed the office of the ECG over what they described as anomalies with their billing.

The police post in the area was attacked subsequently which led to the escape of some cell inmates after the Assemblyman Ebenezer Jones Adamptey also known as Dendenden, an alleged ringleader was arrested.

The 12 persons facing trial at the Koforidua circuit Court were arrested in a swoop after their attacks.
