Ghana’s only international airport; Kotoka International Airport(KIA) handled just 1,667,675 international passengers at the end of 2015.
According to statistics from the Ghana Airport Company Limited this figure is 17,155 higher than that of 2014.
KIA's 2015 passenger traffic is the second highest since 2007.
Ghana has one international airport and three domestic airports. The Kotoka International Airport in Accra, the Kumasi Airport, the Tamale Airport and the Takoradi Airport.
The considerable size in passenger traffic at KIA prompted the airport authorities to target 5 million passengers yearly with an airport expansion project.
The construction of a new terminal at Ghana’s flagship airport – Kotoka International Airport – is expected to make the country a destination of choice.
The project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) with a $120-million facility, will improve air transport in the country.
It is also expected to contribute towards boosting the country’s economy, reduce the cost of doing business, and improve competitiveness.
