Wenchi Methodist students were to visit Mole not Kintampo Waterfalls

The headmaster of the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School said he was yet to be briefed on what led to the change of destination from the Mole National Park to the Kintampo Waterfalls.

A senior staff of the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School (SHS) in the Brong Ahafo Region has revealed that they were to visit the Mole National Park in the Northern Region and return back to school.

The teacher who wished to remain anonymous told mynewsgh.com that a visit to the Kintampo Waterfalls was not part of the planned itinerary for the excursion.

“The arrangement was for them to travel to the Mole National Park in the Northern Region and were expected back on campus on Sunday evening to enable them to attend classes on Monday,” the senior staff said.

He said they are yet to find out why the destination was changed from Mole National Park to the Kintampo Waterfalls.

The headmaster of the school said he was yet to be briefed on what led to the change of destination. He said 63 people including the driver and some teachers were on the bus for the excursion.

Eighteen (18) people have been confirmed dead in an accident at the popular Kintampo Waterfalls in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The accident occurred on Sunday, March 19 at about 4 PM while tourists were still at the falls. A tree from the top of the waterfalls fell onto the sightseers who were swimming.

Some injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Most relations of the affected victims are reportedly trooping into the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman and the Kintampo Government Hospital to identify the bodies of their deceased relations.
