The Supreme Court has dismissed a case filed by the Member of Parliament for New Juabeng South, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah that is seeking an annulment of the Karpower deal.

Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah filed the suit against the Attorney-General, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ecobank at the Supreme Court for going ahead with the Karpower agreement without the approval of parliament.
The suit was to challenge the constitutionality and legality of the agreement that was worth $100 million in return for 450 Megawatts of power from Turkey.
According to government, the move was part of an attempt to provide emergency solutions to the country’s energy crisis.
The suit sought constitutionality of the Karpower agreement which in total cost the taxpayer $100 million in exchange for a 450 Mega Watt power barge 'import' 450 megawatts of power from Turkey to offset the current energy supply deficit.
