Gov't will not be intimidated by 'illegal' strike - Employment Minister

Government will not be intimidated and coerced by the decision of judicial service workers to withdraw their services, Employment and Labour Minister, Haruna Iddrisu has said.

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG), has declared a strike beginning Friday 20th May 2016 over the failure to implement the new agreed consolidation of their salaries and allowances.

JUSSAG embarked on similar a strike but was called off after assurances by Haruna Iddrissu the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations to ensure the implementation of the New salaries.

But two months down the lane the judicial service workers are accusing government of showing a lackadaisical attitude towards their demands and cannot hold on further for their demands.

In an interview with Accra-based Joy FM, Employment Minister said "You can't even take a month to do a constitutional instrument. I think we must learn in this country to respect process. And they must be the first to respect process."

"To say that nothing has happened; two meetings have been held with the government team and JUSSAG. And recommendations have been made based on the approval of the Judicial council but the constitution says with the prior approval of the president.

"The president requested the Committee chaired by Ato Forson to examine it and advise him. That recommendation have gone to the president and JUSSAG is aware that we are awaiting the president's approval, which is constitutional," Haruna Iddrisu added.
