Mugabe's ending is sad, Mahama says

Ghana’s former President John Mahama has described the forced resignation of the former Zimbabwean leader as “a sad ending”.

Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, on Tuesday resigned from his position after ruling the southern African country for 37 years since 1980.

The 93-year-old's resignation came after a week of intense pressure from the military and the public.

Despite an army takeover and expulsion from his own ruling ZANU-PF party, Mugabe had refused to step down in a defiant televised speech on Sunday, November 19, 2017. However, he sent a letter of resignation to the Zimbabwean parliament on Tuesday, November 21.

Commenting on the development on Facebook, John Mahama said he was hopeful that the events that have occurred in Zimbabwe will deepen democracy in that country.
