Accident leaves 3 dead, 10 in critical condition

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, said the 3 died on the spot and the 10 have been taken to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.

An accident which occurred at Kyekyere, a village close to Suhum in the Eastern Region has left 3 persons dead and 10 others in a critical condition.

This happened after a vehicle they were travelling in from Accra to Koforidua collided with a Kumasi-Accra bound vehicle on Monday evening.

Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the incident. He said the 3 died on the spot and the 10 have been taken to the Suhum Government Hospital receiving treatment.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh said the accident could have been avoided if the drivers had exercised a little restraint.

“Yesterday [Monday] at about 8:00 in the evening, a suspect driver, Osei Asante, was in charge of a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number ER 1058-16 from Kasoa to Koforidua, with passengers on board, and upon reaching a village called Kyekyewere near Suhum, he tried overtaking a leading vehicle and in the process his car veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the passenger side of  a Sprinter bus with registration number AW 1329-14, which also had passengers on board, and was heading to Accra from Kumasi.”

He further added that the police “have begun investigations to ascertain all the facts, and efforts are being made to tow the accident vehicles to the station to assist investigations.”

He encouraged passengers to call drivers to order if they are driving carelessly or flouting rules on the road since every life matters.
