2 feared dead as VVIP bus crashes into Toyota Hiace

Two persons are feared dead following an accident which occurred at Okanta near Nsawam in the Eastern region.

According to Accra-based Starr FM, the accident was between a Kumasi-bound VVIP bus with registration GT 6417-10 and a Toyota Hiace with registration number GN 5664-17 which was on its way to Accra.

The VVIP was trying to overtake another bus when it collided with the Toyota vehicle killing the two occupants of the Toyota Hiace instantly.

Personnel from the Police and Fire service are currently at the scene.

This accident comes days after 10 people died in a crash at Teacher Mantey also near Nsawam when a cargo truck collided with a VIP bus.

In 2017, a total of 1233 accident cases were recorded in the Eastern region alone. 1732 vehicles involved out of which 374 persons perished while 2254 were injured.

Most of the accidents occurred at the Seven identified accident-prone roads in the Eastern Region.

The accident-prone areas identified by the MTTD are Teacher Mante to Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, Asamankese -Akroso to Oda road, Akuse -Teye Kwame to Fodoa, Asikuma Junction to Atimpoku, Adeiso to Asamankese , Nkawkaw Bypass and Nsawam Bypass.
