A man who was arrested at the Family Community Hospital at Hohoe in the Volta Region for posing as a medical doctor has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

At a media briefing in Accra on Monday, the Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr. Eli Atikpui, said he is worried about the rise of quack doctors in the country.

According to him, since January 2016, 20 quack doctors had been arrested across the country.

He said ten 10 of the quack doctors were arrested in the Greater Accra Region, three in the Central Region, and the others were arrested in the Volta and Eastern Regions.

Five out of the 20 have so far been prosecuted and sentenced.

He said the Medical and Dental Council has, therefore, put in place measures to reverse the trend.
