Prospective pilgrims who were not airlifted to Saudi Arabia will have their monies refunded to them by the Hajj Board.

Speaking to Accra-based Starr FM spokesperson for the Hajj Board Mohammed Amin Lamptey said the monies will only be refunded to failed pilgrims who made payments to the right people.

“If you paid your money to the right person provided it has landed in the account of the Hajj Board, then definitely you will receive your refund. There are two options; you can either take the money or ask Hajj Board to keep it for you so that you continue with the process next year.”

Mohammed Amin Lamptey explained that the Saudi Arabia government earlier promised to increase Ghana’s quota but failed to fulfil it. This led to many pilgrim hopefuls been denied visas for this year’s hajj.

Hundreds of prospective hajj pilgrims failed to make it for this year’s pilgrimage even though they had made payments to participate. The last batch of Ghanaian Muslim pilgrims were airlifted on Sunday.

The 2016 Hajj pilgrimage is set to start on September 10 and end on September 16.
