Men must help their wives cook – Joyce Aryee

The Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, Dr Joyce Aryee, said "as a man, you can help your wife in the kitchen or just be around to chat with her.”

The Executive Director of Salt and Light Ministries, a para-church organization, Dr Joyce Aryee, has called on married men to help their wives with the house chores which include cooking.

In an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, she also dismissed claims that cooking for your husband could be described as slavery.

The former politician argued that roles and responsibilities in marriage must not be seen as a form of enslaving women.

“I don’t think cooking for your husband can be seen as slavery, No I don’t think so…As a man, you can help your wife in the kitchen or just be around to chat with her.”

“If your wife comes back from work and she is tired, and she must hurriedly prepare food and all that, at least the man must go into the kitchen and stand by her and help her out,” she added.

Dr Aryee’s comment follows arguments on social media that a woman who cooks for her husband is a slave.

Some feminist argue that men must also be able to cook and help with other domestic responsibilities.

Dr Aryee argued that families will vary from one another and must, therefore, be allowed to do what best suits them.

She rather urged people to marry at their own time and not yield to public pressure. She said that the choice to marry or not is an individual’s decision to make.

“Marriage…is a decision that we must allow people to make,” adding that “there are people in the Bible who never got married and God didn’t say they’ve done anything wrong.”
