Men of God who rode on the back of undeserved fame and crashlanded for good

Some of them emerged with some outrageous glamour and vigor, only to bow out of the scene ridiculously.

Inasmuch as there are ‘fake’ men of God in Ghana who are doing all sorts of ‘ungodly’ things in the name of direction from the holy spirit, there are equally some good ones in the system who are conducting themselves in ‘God fearing manner’, and they are able to

However, it would also not be out of place to remind ourselves of some of them who emerged with some outrageous glamour and vigor, only to bow out of the scene ridiculously.

Some of them became popular suddenly by virtue of ‘miracles’ and funny nicknames.

For instance, how often does the name, Tony Asamoah Boateng, aka ‘Apae Live’ come to mind when pastors are being thought or talked about today?

The General Overseer of the Great Light Worship Centre was one of the pastors who started well with many people thinking that he had the hand of God on him, but things suddenly began to nosedive surprisingly.

It even got to a point he alleged that other pastors had bribed his own church members to sabotage him by diverting members of his church to theirs.

Things further deteriorated so much that the man of God had to sell his church building to no other than a fetish priestess, Patricia Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.

Another name to recall is leader of Hope Generation Ministry, Prophet Amponsah aka Computer-Man.

The polygamous pastor was suddenly bedeviled with wife beating scandals and the wife’s claims that the man of God was irresponsible towards his child, and many other embarrassing issues about his private life that were divulged in the media.

He even alleged at a point that one of his wives had been fingered sexually by another Man of God, Prophet Nana Kofi Yirenkyi aka Jesus One Touch, leader of Jesus Blood Prophetic Ministry.

That happened to be the beginning of the decline in the relevance of the computer-man, and one can now say without fear or favour that, he is one of the forgotten pastors in Ghana. He may be doing something small somewhere, but there is no doubt that, judging from the fire that he began with, he has failed the test of time.

The man started well and became famous for performing ‘miracles’. However, his end was nothing good to associate oneself with. He was jailed for 10 years for defiling his 10-year-old daughter.

The man of God had been convicted on two counts of defilement and incest on January 20, 2011, but he regained his freedom after spending 24 months, 21 days in lawful custody.

Apparently, that development spelt doom for the man of God and it is not too surprising that his fame has been almost deleted.

Then you want to remember Nicholas Osei, founder and Leader of the Heaven's Gate Ministries, also known as Prophet Kumchacha.

He is also another pastor who enjoyed almost a nationwide popularity as a result of ‘miracles’ he performed when he started.

However, things began to hit the rocks for him after claims of fraud and other issues unbefitting of a man of God emerged.

What seems to have worsened his plight were some comments passed by no less a person than former president Rawlings at one point, casting a slur on his credibility as a true man of God, all because of some of the scandals that hit his image.

He cannot be said to have been totally forgotten, but with the vim he started, there is no doubt that he himself would admit that he has almost nothing left of his relevance. The only reason some people could still remember him is the fact that he has been seeking media attention and commenting on issues.

You might also want to recall Jesus Abrantie was well known in the country for his bizarre miracles, but si hardly remembered today.

There are several other such pastors, but the biggest lesson to learn here is that, an undeserved fame does not stand the test of time.
