The EC began accepted the filing fees of both presidential and parliamentary aspirants following a court ruling dismissing an interlocutory injunction brought against it by the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
The PPP was in court to challenge the "exorbitant" nomination fees of GHS 50,000 for presidential aspirants and GHS 10,000 for parliamentary nominees.
The EC in a statement earlier asked that all political nominees submit a banker’s draft which will cover their filing fee.
“All nominated candidates for the 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary elections are hereby advised to submit the banker’s draft in respect of their filing fees to the Electoral Commission not later than 12:00 noon on Monday, October 10, 2016,” a statement signed by the EC’s Head of Communications, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu indicated.
