Several areas in the Kumasi Metropolis have been plunged into darkness following an explosion at the Electricity Corporation of Ghana Bulk Supply station in Kumasi.

The cause of the explosion, which occurred around 5.00pm on Thursday, is not entirely known.

Confirming the incident to Kumasi-based Luv FM, the Public Relations Officer of ECG in the region, Erastus Baidoo said the earth reactor, cables and other key materials that supply electricity to the area have been completely burnt.

He indicated that the fire that accompanied the explosion has been put out.

Meanwhile, the ECG has assured residents that it is working around the clock to restore power to the affected areas.
