Teacher arrested for beating wife to death in Northern Region

The teacher, Tia Musah David, is said to have fatally assaulted his wife after the pair were involved in an argument on January 30. The family had initially wanted to cover the story up but for the braveness of an anonymous citizen.

A teacher in the Northern Region has been arrested by the police for beating is wife to death.

In an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, DSP Ebenezer Kusi-Preprah, the crime officer at the Bimbilla District Police Station, said “a whistle-blower informed the police command in Bimbilla that one Tia Musah David, age 57, a teacher at Kasimiah English Arabic primary school in Bimbilla had a quarrel with his wife Janet Kofi 39 in their home at Madina, a suburb of Bimbilla, that the suspect beat her up till she collapsed and died on arrival at the Bimbilla government hospital. The body was deposited at the hospital mortuary and family was trying to conceal the crime.”

“Police proceeded to house...and arrested Tia Musah David. The police also visited the mortuary where the body was deposited with marks of assault on the back and photographs were taken for evidential purposes,” he said.

Analysis

Despite increased education and awareness by the government, non-profit organisations and gender groups, domestic violence persists in the country.

The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service constantly complains about the lack of women reporting incidents of domestic violence, largely due to pressure from family members.
