Residents face eviction from Kaiser Flat in Tema

The Tema Development Company (TDC) has issued an ultimatum to residents of old dilapidated buildings to vacate their premises or face eviction at Kaiser Flats in Tema Community 4.

The residents have just a day to move out.

The ejection exercise is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2018.

However, residents expressed reluctance to shift to transit camps. Some locals fear to lose their properties.

The residents' fears are not unfounded. There have been instances of evacuees continuing to live in the transit accommodation as redevelopment of the buildings faced hurdles.

In June 2017, the TDC together with the police stormed the Kaiser Flats to evict over 400 occupants.

The order was issued by the Tema High Court in 2013 after the TDC had ruled that the flats failed structural integrity tests.
