Residents of Ablekuma in the Greater Accra region were on Wednesday thrown into a state of shock after a 34-year-old man beheaded his three-year-old son in the area.

It is unclear what the reasons behind his action were, but tenants and the landlord have told Accra-based Adom FM that the man was probably suffering from depression after he reportedly lost his job.

He is reported to have subsequently threatened to kill his wife and then commit suicide.

He however ended up killing his son instead, and was later found to have committed suicide.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
