Nana Addo sacks PURC Executive Secretary Samuel Sarpong

A letter signed by the secretary to the President Nana Asante Bediatuo named his replacement as Mami Dufie Ofori, a Director at the commission.

This follows investigations into alleged misappropriation of funds by some officials of the Commission who were probed by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI).

The actions of the staff at the commission follows a resolution reached by executive members of the workers’ union after a meeting on Wednesday, September 6, 2017.

According to reports, Mr Sarpong was under investigations for transferring about GH¢435,087 into his personal accounts and how those monies were expended.

A letter to Samuel Sarpong reads: "Reference is made to your appointment letter dated 11 February 2013, appointing you as the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission that took effect from 10 December 2012.

"In accordance with paragraph 7 of the said letter, your appointment is hereby terminated."

The letter further asked him to handover to Ms Mami Dufie Ofori and proceed to take three months’ salary in liue of notice.

"Please ensure that you handover and cease to act as the Executive Secretary of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission no later than close business on Friday October 13, 2017," the letter directed.
