Prior to the 2016 general election in Ghana Bukom Banku routed behind former President John Mahama took to bleaching his skin and said he had quit boxing for politics and that he was going to be made Ghana ambassador to Germany.

In an interview with Starr FM Banku said his motivation for bleaching came from the fact that renowned musicians Daddy Lumba and Michael Jackson also bleached their skin colours.

Bukom Banku added that he was also pampered by some Ghanaian who started calling him Banku fresh during the period he started bleaching

The Ghanaian boxer, however stated that he later realized it wasn’t going to help him and even decided to read the bible and spread the word of God because that act was sinful.
