Former Secretary to ex-President John Mahama, Ambassador Kwesi Quartey , has been elected to serve as Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission.

He succeeds South Africa's Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.Mr Quartey previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration under the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated the election of the Ghanaian diplomat, Ambassador Kwesi Quartey as Vice Chairman of the African Union (AU) Commission at the ongoing 28th AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopa. "Great news for Ghana. Our very own Ambassador Kwesi Quartey has just been elected as Vice Chair of the AU Commission."
