On Wednesday April 26, 2017 President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed 212 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country.
Out of the 212 appointed MMDCE’s only 36 are women with 176 as men.
However, the 2016 manifesto of the then opposition NPP said that it remains committed to gender equality.
Under the ‘Women’s Empowerment & Children’s Rights’ segment of the manifesto the party prided itself as the first governing political party to set the then Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs, under the Kufuor administration.
This they said “demonstrate the importance of women and children in the society.”
The manifesto added that the NPP will work assiduously to ensure that the “appointment of women to at least 30% of available public office” is achieved.
