Cameroon coach backs players in AFCON bonus row

The Indomitable Lions have surprised many as their makeshift side has stormed into the semi finals,eliminating host country Gabon and tournament favourites Senegal along the way.

Their brilliant ran has however been sullied by stories that players had boycotted training because they felt they deserved to be paid more for their achievements.

Their Belgian manager, Broos however said the players had every right to request for more.

“It is true that we not happy with the bonuses because there has been a lack of respect.

“Players and everyone in the group they like something more than this. It is not the end of the world and I defend the players for that ,” he said at the pre match press conference at the Stade de Renovation de Franceville on Wednesday.

Broos who also coached Anderlecht revealed that media reports that the team had staged a mutiny was inaccurate.

“It is not true that we did not train on Monday because of money.They did not train because I gave them a free day,” he noted.

According to the coach: “Even though we are not happy with the money we have still performed on the pitch which is important. It shows that the players are not here for the money but rather here for their country,the fans and their families.”
