The Accra Psychiatric Hospital is yet to resume admission of patients into the facility in spite of government’s release of some funds to it to settle some of its debts.

This was after several failed attempts by the management of the facility to get the government to meet its budgetary obligation for more than three years.
Speaking to Pulse.com.gh, Emmanuel Febiri, a nurse and member of the Public Affairs directorate at the hospital said that the facility has owed its suppliers since 2013.

The Ministry of Health subsequently intervened and released an amount of 1.5 million Ghana cedis to be shared equally among the three Psychiatric hospitals, namely Pantang, Ankaful and Accra, to offset some of the debt owed suppliers.
Emmanuel Febiri, a nurse and member of the Public Affairs directorate at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital has told Pulse.com.gh that the facility has received the money and is yet to decide on the way forward.
“Our management are still deciding as to whether we can actually pay some debts or not. So as I speak, we are not taking admissions.
Our debt is around 400 million and per what they gave us we are yet to decide as to what to do next,” Febiri added.
