Two students turn up pregnant for exam in Western Region

The two are said to be among over seven thousand candidates writing the exam in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Two candidates turned up pregnant on Monday morning to take part in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Western region.

The Western regional director of education Enyonam Amefugah disclosed this during her visit to four examination centers.

A total of 468,053 candidates are sitting for this year’s BECE which ends June 9, 2017.

Out of the total number of candidates, 241,148 are males, while 226,905 are females.

The examination is taking place at 1,702 centres across the country.

A statement signed and issued by the Director of Public Relations of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Rev. Jonathan Bettey, said the GES would work with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and security agencies to ensure that the candidates would write the examinations in a secure environment free from all forms of intimidation and malpractices.
