These aerial photos show the decline of a regional treasure

It will cost millions of dollars to repair the stadium

The true extent of the damage done to the iconic roof of the Essipong Stadium in the Western region has been revealed by a sensational set of aerial photos.

Taken by Desbrain Consult, the images show the dilapidated roofs which have led to the poor safety rating of the stadium. This among others led to the withdrawal of the stadium, constructed in 2007 for the hosting of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2008, from being used from the 2018 WAFU tournament.

The once magnificent edifice has broken down after years of neglect and poor management from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority and is currently closed.
