Tumblr debuted a sizable update to its iOS application on Friday, when it launched the new Tumblr 4.0.
The application, which now has a new and improved icon, now has a host of features that were previously only available on the desktop version, like the ability to create secondary blogs on the fly.
The new update takes advantage of iOS 8’s new feature that allows you to view useful information as well as other content on your today screen, which displays what’s trending on Tumblr as a whole and not just your blog, or updates from the Tumblr network.
The widget also received some new features that were already available on Android. This includes Tumblr user’s most requested feature: the ability to make video posts by simply copying and pasting a video URL.
In addition, iOS users can now filter searches by post-type – like photos, chats or videos – as well as move between the most recent results and the top results. The Tumblr app for Xkit users already had these features for some time, but was sorely lacking in the iOS version.
Other minor improvements to the app are sticky search bar, a better iPad layout, better GIF loading and more.
