J.Y Appiah wants litigants thrown out of GFA

The former FA Cup committee chairman says the league is delaying because the GFA is lenient with clubs who engage them in legal battles.

Joseph Yaw Appiah believes until the GFA takes a bold step to apply its rules on members who resort to court action, its competitions will always delay.

The Ghana Premier League suffered massive delay last season due to court action taken by King Faisal against the Ghana Football Association, after they failed to survive relegation by the end of the 2013-14 season.

Although, the status of the association forbids members from resorting to court action and such an attempt calls for expulsion, the GFA over the years has failed to hand over punishment to offenders, because there is the need for congress to vote before such an sanction could be applied or not depending on the percentage.

And the J.Y Appiah, who has now retired from active football after serving as the Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana (GHALCA) and FA Cup Committee chairman, has called on the GFA to be strict in exercising its power to expel litigants from the association.

“I think the reason the reason why the Ghana Premier League has been delaying is due to failure of the GFA to expel litigants from the association.

“The GFA knows the litigants, so it ought to expel them to ensure the smooth running of the league,” he told Hot FM.

No date has been set for the start of the GPL because the Ethic Committee needs to rule on the bribery allegation against Takyiman City, who have booked their ticket to the topflight league.
