Two goals from the reigning FIFA Footballer of the Year, Cristiano Ronaldo was enough to give Real Madrid a comfortable 1-2 win.

Arturo Vidal gave Bayern Munich the lead in the first half and the Chilean midfielder should have doubled the lead for the hosts, when a contentious hand ball incident  was awarded a penalty to the five times champions of Europe, but Vidal blew it over the cross bar for a goal kick.

The second half went in Madrid's favour as Cristiano Ronaldo got the equaliser for the visitors in a world fashion to beat Nauer in post and it was all Madrid after Javi Martinez got sent off for a second bookable offence.

Ronaldo scored the match winner from a tap in to make the second half to make qualification looking like going Madrid's way ahead of the second half.

In 2014 Real Madrid became the first club to beat Bayern Munich 0-4 at home in the UEFA Champions League.

In madrid, Atletico Matrid piped Leicester City by a goal to nil in the first leg, whereas Borussia Dortmund in an early kick off suffered a 2-3 defeat against Monaco.
