Lionel Messi sets new record

The Argentine scored an impressive hat-trick against former Blaugrana manager Pep Guardiola's side, setting a new European record along the way.

Lionel Messi has set a new Champions League record with his hat-trick against Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

Messi's second strike of the clash saw him draw level with Real Madrid legend Raul Gonzalez for the highest number of goals scored at home in the UCL.

However, the Barca forward went on to add to his tally on the night, therefore breaking Raul's record.

Former Real Madrid and Schalke striker Raul had held the record with 49 home goals.
