We took a look at the most tantalizing weekend fixtures from across Europe, and put together a list of Ghanaian players who we think need to be watched closely.

Abdul Baba Rahman

There have been green shoots of optimism at Schalke, who finally appear to be picking up the pace after a dismal start to the season. They took their first away point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw at Augsburg last weekend, but remain in 16th place. It will be intriguing to see whether Baba keeps his place at left-back ahead of Sead Kolasinac, while Nabil Bentaleb, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Stambouli could all feature.

Jordan Ayew

Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce looks to add to the four points picked up from a possible six since he took charge when they face Fulham on Saturday.  Villa are without suspended winger Jack Grealish while defenders Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards (both calf) are out but they will need the services of Jordan Ayew against the Whites. The Ghana striker climbed off the bench to score and earn Aston Villa their first away victory in 437 days as he inspired them to a 2-1 over Reading in mid-week. Villa fans will be hoping to see Ayew starting the game this time around and most importantly, repeating what he did on Wednesday night.

Kevin-Prince Boateng

Two of La Liga’s most talented African attacking players go head to head on Sunday when Villarreal host Las Palmas. Expect Democratic Republic of Congo forward Bakambu to lead the line for the Yellow Submarine alongside Nicola Sansone with Roberto Soldado injured and, after scoring in the 5-0 rout of Celta Vigo, he’s in good form. Prince has been key to the Canary Islanders’ strong start to the season, with two goals in his opening six league games.

Christian Atsu

In reality, Newcastle are heavy favourites to see off Ipswich at the St. James' Parko on Saturday, with the gap between the two rivals becoming a chasm in recent years. Atsu starred in Newcastle's victory over Brentford last Saturday, and it will be fascinating to see him up against an Ipswich team who have only kept one clean sheet against Newcastle in their last 20 league encounters - a 1-0 win in April 2001 with Richard Wright stopping the Magpies scoring.
