Atletico Madrid midfielder makes Ghana debut in Mauritius victory

Thomas Partey played his first game for Ghana in their 2-0 win over Mauritius in a 2017 Afcon qualifier on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder came on as a substitute in the 79th minute to replace winger Frank Acheampong.

Partey, who was among three players handed debut call-ups by Ghana coach Avram Grant, started the game from the bench as Afriyie Acquah and Wakaso Mubarak were prefered in central midfield.

He starred in the 2016 Uefa Champions League final for Atletico Madrid in their defeat against Real Madrid in Milan.

Ghana booked their place at next year's Africa Cup of Nations thanks to goals from Andre Ayew and Christian Atsu.
