The Ayews have jointly scored 21 goals in the Africa Cup of Nations, making them the highest scoring family in the competition's history.

In the past, we have had the likes of the Toures, the Hassan family, the Gyan family, the Kalous and so on but the name

Abedi 'Pele' Ayew, the first of the five Ayews who have graced the African football terrain, participated in five Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments - 1982, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998 - scoring six goals in the process. He opened his goal account against Zambia in 1992, as Ghana cruised to a 1-0 victory.

Abedi’s junior brother, Kwame Ayew, played with his senior brother at the 1996 AFCON. Kwame Ayew’s goal scoring in the AFCON however began in 2000 against Cameroon. In the end, he scored two goals.

Andre Ayew was the third member of the Ayew family to play in the AFCON. This was in 2008. Dede however got his first AFCON goal in 2010 against Burkina Faso and has since that time added eight goals to send his tally to nine goals - a figure that makes him Ghana's all-time top scorer at the biennial competition alongside.

Rahim Ayew, the eldest son of Abedi Pele was also selected for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola, but he couldn’t score to increase the goals of the Ayews and, unfortunately, that was his only AFCON for Ghana.

Jordan Ayew, despite making his AFCON debut in 2012, had to wait until 2015 to open his AFCON goal scoring account, scoring the opening goal in the Black Stars 3-0 win over Equatorial Guinea.

The Crystal Palace striker has scored two goals in the 2019 AFCON to increase his goal tally to four.

The Ayews can now boast of 21 goals which is more than any family in the history of the Africa Cup of nations, since its inception in 1957.
