The Spanish fourth seed is gradually improving at Flushing Meadows, yet to drop a set after his 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory over Russian Kuznetsov on Friday.
Rafael Nadal continues cruising at US Open
Rafael Nadal's untroubled passage through at the US Open continued with a straight-sets win over Andrey Kuznetsov in the third round.
Nadal had previously been challenged by Kuznetsov, but there were no signs of danger at Arthur Ashe Stadium this time.
The 14-time grand-slam champion was somewhat flattered by the first-set scoreline before four consecutive breaks of serve in the second gave Kuznetsov hope.
However, despite facing a break point serving for the set in the 10th game, Nadal closed it out.
Nadal battled to consolidate his break early in the third set before easing to a convincing win in one hour, 58 minutes.
Included in wrapping up the win was a between-the-legs lob from the back of the court by Nadal as he thrilled the New York crowd.
Awaiting Nadal in the fourth round is 24th seed Lucas Pouille, the Frenchman he beat easily in their only meeting last year.
