Wimbledon: Marcus Willis determined to enjoy fairytale

British qualifier Marcus Willis vowed to enjoy his second-round clash with Roger Federer after a dramatic opening day at Wimbledon.

Marcus Willis is determined to make the most of a "dream come true" when he takes on Roger Federer in the second round at Wimbledon.

The 25-year-old was the story of Monday's play as he belied his world ranking of 772 to beat Ricardas Berankis, Willis sending Court 17 wild with a 6-3 6-3 6-4 win.

Willis – who is Great Britain's 23rd best player – almost quit the sport in January, but after plenty of hard work he capped his first grand slam main draw appearance with a memorable triumph that booked a meeting with Federer.

"I'm not sure he [Federer] can play on grass, so that's good," Willis joked in his post-match news conference.

"Obviously it's amazing, a dream come true, I get to play on a stadium court, this is what I dreamed of when I was younger.

"I'm going to go out there and try and win a tennis match, I probably won't, but I'm still going to give everything like I have done in the last seven matches."

It has been a long road for Willis to this stage, but he says is the win over the man ranked 718 places above him made it all worthwhile.

He added: "I lost a lot of confidence, made a lot of bad decisions, I didn't have the drive, but I found it again.

"I've worked very hard with my coach at ridiculous times in the morning, I ran myself into the ground but it's worth it now."
