Alexander Zverev has the opportunity to claim a maiden ATP World Tour title at the St Petersburg Open, but must end Stan Wawrinka's sensational winning run in finals to do so.
Wawrinka winning streak continues, Zverev awaits
The final of the St Petersburg Open will bring together two players of contrasting experience, in Stan Wawrinka and Alexander Zverev.
Zverev and Wawrinka will meet on Sunday, after recording respective straight-sets victories over Tomas Berdych and Roberto Bautista Agut in the last four.
Yet while 19-year-old Zverev has two runner-up finishes to his name in 2016, US Open champion Wawrinka has triumphed in 11 consecutive finals and heads into his latest having won 10 successive matches - including his title-clinching victory over Novak Djokovic at Flushing Meadows two weeks ago.
Neither finalist has dropped a set in St Petersburg so far, although Wawrinka was forced to battle hard to maintain that record against Bautista Agut.
The Spaniard spurned two set points before Wawrinka took the opener in a tie-break.
Having come through that test, the top seed kicked on impressively to complete a 7-6 (10-8) 6-2 victory.
Zverev reached his third final of the season with a 6-4 6-4 win over world number nine Berdych, who had won the pair's four previous meetings.
The German is looking to become the first teenage winner of an ATP title since Marin Cilic triumphed in New Haven eight years ago.
