Seventh seed Fabio Fognini claimed his seventh hard court victory of 2016 as he sent Dudi Sela packing 6-4 6-1 at the Shenzhen Open.

Having battled through the opening set in China, Fognini turned the screw in the second, Sela having no joy after winning the opening game of the set.

Fognini then reeled off six games in a row to complete his victory, the Italian needing two match points to confirm his progression.

He is joined in the last 16 by Mischa Zverev and Andrew Whittington after they also won without dropping a set.

The inaugural Chengdu Open saw Argentine pair Diego Schwartzman and Juan Monaco clinch straight-sets first-round victories.

Schwartzman wasted six match points before beating Rajeev Ram 6-4 7-5, while Monaco rattled off six successive games in the opening set of his 6-1 6-2 victory over Hiroki Moriya.
