Johanna Larsson's defence of the Ericsson Open came to an end on Saturday at the hands of Katerina Siniakova, who will now face Laura Siegemund in Sunday's final in Bastad.

Siniakova progressed to her maiden WTA final courtesy of a 7-5 6-1 triumph over home favourite Larsson.

Both players struggled badly on serve in an opening set featuring 24 break points, but Siniakova raised her game in set two to claim victory.

Siegemund's place in the final was secured when fellow German Julia Goerges retired with a left hip injury trailing 4-0 in the third and final set.

Goerges took the first set 6-4 but was pegged back and ultimately unable to finish the match.

Both Siniakova and sixth seed Siegemund will be seeking maiden singles titles on the WTA Tour, the latter having been beaten by Angelique Kerber in her only previous final appearance, which also came on clay in Stuttgart earlier this year.
