Murray books fourth-round US Open clash with Dimitrov

World number two Andy Murray will meet Grigor Dimitrov in the US Open fourth after seeing off Paolo Lorenzi in New York.

Andy Murray reached the fourth round of the US Open in relatively comfortable fashion with a four-set win over Paolo Lorenzi on Saturday.

Murray recovered from a sloppy start at the Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York, booking his place in the next round with a 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-2 6-3 victory.

Lorenzi, fresh off an almost five-hour battle with Gilles Simon in the second round, showed no signs of fatigue in the early stages with an impressive showing.

The Italian was holding his own, breaking at the first attempt, but the second-seeded Murray was able to recover and take out the opening set in a tie-break.

With many expecting Murray to run away with it from that point onwards, Lorenzi was still full of fire in the second, racing out to a 5-2 lead.

While he did let Murray back into it, with the world number two levelling things up at 5-5, Lorenzi won the next two games to ensure it would not be as easy a win as the Olympic champion was hoping for.

The Briton dominated the third, with signs of fatigue beginning to seep through for Lorenzi, but the Italian was not backing down easily.

Murray took a 3-1 lead in the third but Lorenzo had the chance to break to level it at 3-3, however for just the second time all match he was unable to convert the opportunity.

The 30-year-old went on to win the fourth set, setting up a fourth-round clash with Grigor Dimitrov, who saw off Joao Sousa earlier in the day.
