Rafael Nadal has no intention of retiring from tennis after seeming to finally overcome his injury and form issues to end 2015 back among the sport's star turns.

The 14-time grand slam winner suffered a slump in form following knee surgery in 2014, Nadal dropping to 10th in the world.

However, Nadal reached at least the semi-finals in four of his last five tournaments of 2015, including runs to the final in Beijing and Basel, suggesting the Spaniard can return to his title-winning best in 2016.

"I'm more than happy to keep on going, and I'm very excited about it," he said.

"I have the motivation to keep going. For me it doesn't matter if it takes one, two, three, four, five or six years. I really don't think about it. I go day by day.

"I'm happy with the way I've competed in the last three months of the season.

"I've achieved in the world of tennis, much more than I've ever dreamed.

"I have the motivation to keep going, to start another year in one month and to keep playing good tennis every day."
