Angelique Kerber turns attentions to grand-slam success

After her best year on the WTA Tour, Angelique Kerber has turned her attentions to grand-slam success in 2016.

Angelique Kerber has hinted she will play fewer tournaments in 2016 in a bid to improve her performances at the grand slams.

The German maintained her place in the WTA top 10 by winning four titles last year, but failed to go beyond the third round at any slam.

And as she prepares to begin the new season at the Brisbane International, Kerber – a two-time slam semi-finalist – says her focus will turn to competing better in the WTA Tour's most important tournaments.

"2015 was a great year," said the 27-year-old. "I won four titles and I'm still in the top 10 for my fourth year.

"This year I will try to stay in the top 10, maybe getting a little bit higher and ending the year in the top 10 as well and trying to focus more on the biggest tournaments, playing maybe less tournaments.

"I'm happy about my pre-season. I did everything I could and now I'm looking forward to being here in Brisbane and start the year.

"Right now I have my schedule until Wimbledon and then I will see which tournaments I will play or not."
