Lleyton Hewitt has vowed to help controversial Australian compatriot Nick Kyrgios fulfil his undoubted talent.

Two-time grand slam champion Hewitt is to bring an end to his glittering career at the Australian Open, and Kyrgios is sure to carry much of the pressure from fans to be Australia's flag bearer over the coming years.

The 20-year-old is tipped for a bright future in the game, but a series of on and off-court misdemeanours have earned him a reputation as something of a bad boy.

Kyrgios gave a timely reminder of his ability by helping Australia Green to Hopman Cup glory, including a notable win over Andy Murray, and Hewitt plans to help him learn to cope with the pressure.

"Nick is very talented and his potential is unlimited, however we need to be patient, support and work with Nick," Hewitt told Australia newspaper The Telegraph.

"The pressure will be what Nick applies to himself, and I know I can help with that having been through the same myself."

Hewitt also promised to help fellow Aussies Sam Groth, Thanasi Kokkinakis and Bernard Tomic after he retires.

"It's time for me to pass it on to the younger boys, I'll still be there to help them out," he added.

"I have a lot of faith in the younger boys, they've got the talent to win the big matches and will no doubt make their own history."
