Casey Dellacqua will miss the Australian Open after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome.

The world number five at doubles initially suffered the injury in October, following a heavy fall at the China Open in Beijing.

However, her recovery after a period in hospital has faltered, with the new diagnosis ruling her out of the first major of 2016 on her home patch.

"She is still not in a position where she is able to train to the level required to be able to play tennis," Dellacqua's manager Sam Maxwell said.

"There is no timeline on Casey's return at present, however, we expect her to return to light training in the coming weeks with a return to the tour some tie after the Australian summer."

Dellacqua, who suffered defeat with partner Yaroslava Shvedova in the 2015 French Open and US Open finals, will also miss the Hopman Cup " where she would have partnered Lleyton Hewitt " and the Sydney International.
