Richard Gasquet and Fernando Verdasco made it through to the quarter-finals of the Winston-Salem Open but it was another mixed day for seeds.

French top seed Gasquet made light work of Stephane Robert, easing past his countryman in straight sets on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old needed just over an hour to complete the 6-1 6-3 win.

It was another rough day for seeds at the ATP 250 event however as four in total departed.

One of the big shocks was fourth seed and 2015 semi-finalist Steve Johnson, who lost out to Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

The American went down in straight sets but did so fighting, with 15th seed Verdasco prevailing 6-4 7-6 (9-7).

Pablo Cuevas - the third seed - also faced an early exit, going down to 16th seed Pablo Carreno-Busta 6-3 7-6 (7-1).

Spanish second seed Roberto Bautista-Agut battled past Marcos Baghdatis 4-6 6-3 6-1, while ninth seed Viktor Troicki knocked out sixth seed Sam Querrey 6-2 7-6 (7-5).

John Millman beat wildcard Bjorn Fratangelo 5-7 6-0 6-3, Andrey Kuznetsov won through after Jiri Vesely retired with the two locked at 5-5 in the first set, and Yen-Hsun Lu defeated Diego Schwartzman 6-4 6-0.
