Fabio Fognini made amends for his 2013 final loss by winning the Croatia Open on Sunday, defeating first-time finalist Andrej Martin in straight sets.

Italian Fognini, who lost the decider of the ATP 250 event to Tommy Robredo three years ago, defeated Slovak Martin 6-4 6-1 in one hour and 10 minutes on the clay at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag.

The opening set went on serve until Martin, who had earlier saved three break points, finally gave one up on set point by sending a forehand wide, world number 39 Fognini having not offered his opponent so much as a single break.

That dominance was even more pronounced in the second set, as world number 124 Martin, playing in his first ATP World Tour final, was broken in his first two service games.

He finally held in the sixth game but it was too late to halt Fognini's march to a fourth career title, following triumphs at the Stuttgart Open and German Open in 2013 and Royal Guard Open in Chile a year later, the 29-year-old sealing the win with an ace.
